Douglas B. Stevenson joined the Journal's Editorial Board in 1996. Now the Director of the Center for Seafarers' Rights of the Seaman's Church Institute in New York City, a leader in the global fight against the mistreatment of marine personnel and the only full-time maritime legal aid office in the world, he previously was in active service with the U.S. Coast Guard, eventually retiring with the rank of commander. Mr. Stevenson holds a B.S. from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a J.D. from the University of Miami.
